LaVar Ball thinks the Minnesota Timberwolves signing Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball after trading for LaMelo will result in a guaranteed championship win.

The Timberwolves front office, led by Tim Connelly, made an ambitious move to trade multiple draft assets and Naz Reid to the Charlotte Hornets to acquire LaMelo Ball as Anthony Edwards’ new co-star in Minnesota.

LaMelo’s arrival has led to his father, LaVar Ball, calling for moves that would help him fulfill his dream of watching his three sons play on the same NBA team.

A video where LaVar is wearing Big Baller merchandise is going viral as he ‘guarantees’ the Timberwolves would win the NBA Championship if they added Lonzo and LiAngelo to the roster alongside LaMelo.

“You get the other two Ball boys, it’ll be the most-watched team in the NBA, trust me… Melo can’t win it by himself, but with his brothers? I guarantee y’all a championship. The chemistry, and the speed of the game… Together you can’t beat ’em.

“Ant-Man, you’re already a superstar, so you know what to do… You can get Lonzo damn near for nothin. You can get Gelo damn near for nothing… Whenever them Ball boys together, CANT LOSE.”

The trio together were a terror in high school basketball with Chino Hills, but there’s no basketball argument to support Ball’s claim.

Signing LaMelo’s brothers might boost LaMelo’s production and make him more effective, but there’s no situation where the three together would lead an NBA team to the Playoffs, let alone a title.

Lonzo is currently a free agent after his miraculous comeback to the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers after a 1,006-day injury absence ended with him averaging 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 35 games on 30.9% from the field, getting waived by the Utah Jazz after a trade in February.

LiAngelo has never had a full-time NBA contract and is yet to make his debut despite multiple G League and Summer League appearances. The 27-year-old seemed to have turned his attention to being a rapper in 2024, so it’s unlikely the Wolves will inquire into signing him.

Lonzo could actually be an option as a fringe backup guard who could play in emergencies, but the thin Timberwolves roster will look to make more consequential additions first.
