LASU to graduate 20,604 at combined convocation ceremonies

Diploma Category: 44 total graduates (33 Upper Credit and 11 Lower Credit).

First Degree Category: 8,653 total graduates (232 First Class, 3,545 Second Class Upper, 4,157 Second Class Lower, 678 Third Class, and 31 Pass degrees).

Overall Best Student: Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of the Department of Aerospace Engineering emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student for the session, finishing with a CGPA of 4.97.

Postgraduate Degrees and Distinguished Honours

A total of 3,383 postgraduate degrees will be conferred across both sessions. The breakdown includes 618 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,508 Academic Master’s degrees, 900 Professional Master’s degrees, 238 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 119 Professional Doctoral degrees.

In addition, LASU will bestow honorary doctorate degrees upon three prominent Nigerian figures in recognition of their contributions to national development, they include:

Akin Kekere-Ekun: Doctor of Business (Honoris Causa) for achievements in entrepreneurship, finance, and institutional management.

Dr. Harriet-Ann Omobola Adesola: Honorary Doctorate for contributions to corporate finance and governance.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote: Honorary Doctorate for impacts on industrialization, global entrepreneurship, and human capital development.

Furthermore, the university will formally elevate two internal scholars – Professor Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, to the rank of Distinguished Professors in recognition of their research, teaching, and academic mentorship records.

The week-long convocation events kick off today with a staff sports competition and the inaugural staff celebration day.

The official schedule of events includes:

Friday, August 14: Traditional coconut-breaking ceremony, Cultural Day activities, and the convocation Jumat service.

Monday, August 17: Conferment of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and Master’s degrees in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences at the Epe Campus.

Tuesday, August 18: The Convocation Lecture, titled “From LASU to the World: Harnessing the Nigerian Diaspora as the Seventh Region for National Development,” to be delivered by the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Wednesday, August 19: Conferment of Professional and Academic Doctorate degrees, alongside the award of Honorary Doctorate degrees and Distinguished Professorships at the Main Campus in Ojo.
