Lamar Jackson and Jesse Minter nearly top a QB-head coach duo ranking

The Baltimore Ravens enter the 2026 season with lofty expectations. Who cares if this is a new coaching staff? They inherit one of the NFL’s top rosters, and a recent CBS Sports ranking suggests the expectations heaped upon this flock are justified. Jared Dubin recently ranked the NFL’s 12 new quarterback-head coach pairings and placed the Ravens‘ combination of Lamar Jackson and Jesse Minter second overall. Only one duo finished higher. The Buffalo Bills‘ Josh Allen-Joe Brady combination. All of this is hardly surprising.

Lamar Jackson remains one of the NFL’s most accomplished players. Even after battling injuries for most of the 2025 campaign, he remains a two-time MVP capable of winning the award for a third time this season. He’s capable of taking over games in ways few quarterbacks can. According to Dubin, Minter’s defensive acumen and a healthier Jackson could be among the biggest reasons Baltimore enters the season as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

“Jackson should be fully healthy after having plenty of time to heal from the injuries that plagued him last season… The only reason these guys aren’t at No. 1 is because we also have another top-tier pairing to consider.”

The respect for Minter is noteworthy. He arrives with a reputation that immediately commands attention throughout an organization. Together, they form one of the NFL’s most intriguing partnerships. More importantly, this is a roster capable of competing for a championship immediately. The Ravens possess talent at quarterback, running back, along both lines of scrimmage, and throughout the defense. That’s why Baltimore’s goals should extend beyond simply reaching the postseason.

If Jackson remains healthy and Minter’s leadership delivers as expected, the Ravens have every reason to believe they can win the AFC North and make a deep playoff run. CBS Sports clearly sees the potential. The rest of the NFL may soon be forced to acknowledge it as well.
