Chelsea hopes to rain on Tottenham Hotspur’s parade and send its bitter rival back into the Premier League relegation zone when the teams meet at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Roberto De Zerbi’s side have only just bagged their first league win of the campaign but are braced for another inquisition when they make the short trip to West London.
The Blues, meanwhile, are back up to fourth in the standings after recently earning back-to-back victories over Bournemouth (5-1) and Everton (2-0). Xabi Alonso’s electric brand of soccer is delighting fans once again after a sour patch, with third place up for grabs if his side can make it three in a row this weekend.
Star goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is out of commission for the time being after fracturing his jaw in the recent win over Everton. That should lead to a full Premier League debut for Belgian stopper Mike Penders, although captain Reece James is out following knee surgery and left-back Pep Chavarria is a doubt.
Spurs could almost field a team with their list of possible absentees, which includes Lucas Bergvall, Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Savio and suspended Rodrigo Bentancur. World Cup winner Pedro Porro and left-back Destiny Udogie missed Monday’s 3-1 win over Coventry City but could each feature at the Bridge.
