What is an offseason without an intriguing update involving the Los Angeles Lakers?
Well, sort of.
Former NBA guard Lakers news: Ex-LA forward will tradeDelonte West continues to try to improve his life and find a sense of direction amid his long struggle with mental health and substance abuse. On Instagram, he announced that he is set to face a former Lakers player in a boxing match: Michael Beasley.

It will happen on October 16 in Miami, Florida.
West’s announcement earned mixed reactions.
“You just got your mind right. Why are you doing this?” asked @camdaddy703.
“Going to be the best comeback story ever told,” said @el_blankito_de_los_ojos_negro.
“Delonte, please, no. I love you too much,” wrote @tyynextdoor.
“This is not good,” added @greenrunsdeep.
“Play pickleball or something,” suggested @incrediblehawk34.
“Why not one-on-one basketball? That’s what we wanna see for real,” stated @chasebanz.
The 43-year-old West has become active on social media in recent weeks, celebrating his sobriety. It was encouraging for fans to see him feeling well again. He played eight seasons in the NBA, averaging 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals. His final year was with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2011-2012 season.
The 37-year-old Beasley, meanwhile, has remained active in basketball after exiting the NBA. He is currently with the Miami 305 in the BIG3, where he is the two-time reigning MVP. He has also kept busy as an online personality. His last stint in the NBA was with the Lakers, averaging 7.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in 26 games in the 2018-2019 season.
Beasley fought Lance Stephenson, his former Lakers teammate, in an MMA match in May. He lost via submission.
