Lagos TESCOM Presents Appointment Letters to 992 Newly Recruited Teachers

The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has presented appointment letters to 992 newly recruited teachers as part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen public secondary education and address staffing shortages across schools.

The newly recruited education officers were selected after a rigorous recruitment process aimed at meeting the demands of the state’s growing student population, bridging gaps in core science and technical subjects, and improving the quality of teaching in public secondary schools.

Presenting the appointment letters, TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, congratulated the successful applicants and urged them to uphold the ethics and values of the teaching profession while serving as worthy ambassadors of the Lagos State Government.

She explained that the recruitment exercise is a continuous initiative designed to ensure that public secondary schools are adequately staffed with qualified teachers and instructors, particularly as Lagos continues to experience rapid population growth.

According to Peregrino, the state must consistently replace retired and exited teachers to prevent overcrowded classrooms and maintain quality education.

She encouraged the teachers to understand their students’ strengths and challenges, embrace creativity and innovation in the classroom, and adopt modern teaching techniques. She also stressed the need for continuous professional development, the integration of technology into teaching, and the use of effective, non-violent disciplinary methods.

The TESCOM chairman further advised the newly employed teachers to maintain professionalism in their appearance, remain diligent in their duties, and take the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the state’s education sector.

Also speaking, the Commission member representing Ikeja Division on the TESCOM Board, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, and the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Olawale Ojikutu, cautioned the teachers against bullying and sexual harassment of students, warning that the Lagos State Government has zero tolerance for such misconduct. They also urged them to be dedicated and punctual in carrying out their responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the newly recruited teachers, Mr. Orire Ajayi Samuel expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to serve, pledging that the new recruits would discharge their duties responsibly and represent the state with integrity.

The newly recruited teachers will be deployed to public secondary schools across Lagos State’s six education districts after completing the required documentation.
