Lagos postpones BECE papers over Oro Festival in Ikorodu

The Lagos State Government has postponed all papers scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) following the declaration of the Oro Festival in parts of the Ikorodu Division.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Lagos State Examinations Board through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

According to the Board, the decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders and was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of candidates, examination officials, and other stakeholders, while guaranteeing the smooth conduct of the examination.

The Board said all affected papers earlier slated for Wednesday, July 1, will now be written on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

It added that all other examination papers would be conducted on their previously scheduled dates.

The Board expressed regret over any inconvenience the adjustment may cause and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of parents, guardians, school authorities, candidates, and the general public.

Candidates were advised to obtain the revised examination timetable from their respective schools and make adequate preparations for the rescheduled papers.

The statement was signed by the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu.
