The Forum of Local Government Supervisors and Special Advisers for Education in Lagos State has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the delivery of quality education through stronger collaboration and sustained engagement with the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by members of the forum to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, at the ministry’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.
The delegation, led by the Special Adviser for Education in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mrs. Taiwo Ololade, said the visit was aimed at drawing from the commissioner’s experience and seeking guidance on strategies to further improve basic and secondary education across the state.
During the interactive session, members of the forum identified several areas requiring government attention. These include regular capacity-building programmes for education supervisors, teachers and school administrators through local and international training opportunities, improved security in public schools, construction of perimeter fences to enhance school safety, continuous professional development for teachers, and special incentives for teachers and principals serving in riverine communities.
The forum also advocated stronger partnerships with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to complement government efforts in improving educational outcomes across the state.
Responding, the commissioner commended the forum for its commitment to advancing education at the grassroots, noting that sustainable development in the sector requires collective responsibility and active participation from all stakeholders.
Alli-Balogun urged members of the forum to regularly visit schools within their respective local government areas and local council development areas to engage school administrators, monitor learning environments, identify challenges requiring intervention and maintain close contact with the ministry.
He encouraged them to seek clarification and guidance whenever necessary, stressing that effective communication between the ministry and education stakeholders is vital to achieving better outcomes.
The commissioner further noted that government alone cannot address all the challenges confronting the education sector and called on communities, development partners and private organisations to collaborate in supporting educational development.
The meeting ended with both the ministry and the forum reaffirming their commitment to working together to promote excellence, innovation and inclusive quality education across Lagos State.
