LA Olympics Tickets Are Dropping Early—But Only for Some Fans

If you’ve struggled to get tickets for the 2028 Summer Olympics in LA, you’re not out of luck just yet.

There’s another ticket drop coming in August.

But if you’ve got the right credit card, you’ll get an early crack at getting tickets for new sports like “Ninja Warrior”-style obstacle races and flag football, reports Thuc Nhi Nguyen of the Los Angeles Times.

Olympic tickets will be available on presale in late July

If you don’t want to wait until Aug. 10 and have a Visa credit card, you can buy tickets from July 29 to 31.

Visa is a longtime Olympics sponsor and is the only credit card accepted at the games.

As Nguyen notes, be sure to confirm your status as a Visa cardholder on the LA28 site beforehand.

“Fans who have already registered can log into their existing LA28 ticket account, check the ‘Visa presale box’ and save changes,” Nguyen wrote. “New registrants must select the Visa cardholder option during the registration process. All ticket sales during the presale must be completed with a Visa credit card.”

Those cardholders will be notified of their ability to buy tickets in the Visa presale on July 27, though not everyone will have access in the random lottery.

How much are Olympics tickets for the games in Los Angeles?

It’s unclear if more $28 tickets will be available in the July presale or if they’re all being held for the August dates, but outside of those affordable tickets, the options have left some Angelenos with sticker shock.

Fred Rosen, the former CEO of Ticketmaster, told James Rainey of the Los Angeles Times that the prices, which many people say are too high at more than $5,000 in some cases, are set at that level so that taxpayers don’t have to “subsidize” the Games.

“The L.A. Olympic [Organizing] Committee has every right to sell assets. It has to do that to make sure the city doesn’t pay any money,” Rosen told Rainey. “And the fair value is determined by whether people pay for the tickets or not.”

Critics like ticketing company executive Ahmed Nimale, though, told the Los Angeles Times that the ticket prices are “opaque.”

“Is this the best experience? For fans to be priced out potentially due to higher fees?” Nimale said. “My question is, are fans really getting the best shot to get tickets in the first place? There’s a need for transparency here that’s building.”
