KPop Demon Hunters Officially Starts A New Era On Netflix After Surprise Release

KPop Demon Hunters is back for a new streaming era on Netflix, with the fan-favorite animated movie resurging on the streaming service’s charts after a surprise release. Netflix’s Original movies have found success in a wide variety of genres. That said, no other film has risen to the level of KPop Demon Hunters. After all, the animated musical fantasy stands as the most popular Netflix movie of all time, according to official Netflix data. KPop Demon Hunters racked up a whopping 325.1 million views in its first 91 days on the streaming service, beating the streamer’s runner-up by a considerable margin.

In 2nd is Red Notice, the star-studded action movie starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, which brought in 230.9 million views in as many days. That means that KPop Demon Hunters is the only Netflix movie to fly past the high mark of 300 million views on the streaming service to date. Now, over a year since the fantasy movie was released on Netflix on June 20, 2025, KPop Demon Hunters has found a way to return to the streamer’s charts, and this move happens before the announced sequel, but after a new surprise KPop Demon Hunters release.

KPop Demon Hunters Is Back As A Netflix Top 10 Hit

At the time of writing, KPop Demon Hunters has become the 9th most popular movie on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies chart in the United States, according to data from FlixPatrol. This marks the first time in months that the hit fantasy movie has broken into the streaming service’s nationwide charts. The movie was likely boosted by a new surprise release, as Netflix released both animated and live-action videos of HUNTR/X’s choreography for “How It’s Done” on YouTube on Monday, October 26. The live-action video featured dancers Leejung Lee, BAMBI (Park Jieun), Nara (Lee Nara), with Lee responsible for the choreography.

KPop Demon Hunters was so successful for the streaming service, becoming Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time, that a sequel was pretty much guaranteed from the moment the animated fantasy film started its unprecedented run. The KPop Demon Hunters sequel is expected to be released in 2029, given how long it takes for a movie with such intricate animation to come together. Additionally, at Bloomberg’s Screentime in September (via Deadline), Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed that Netflix is planning a “big, broad, global” theatrical run when the KPop Demon Hunters sequel arrives, changing how the fantasy movie franchise’s releases work.
