NEED TO KNOW

  • The New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs faced off once again at New York City’s Madison Square Garden for Game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 10
  • The Spurs dominated the game until the fourth quarter, when the Knicks engineered an epic comeback
  • The Knicks won 107-106 and are now one win away from their first NBA Finals championship since 1973

After 53 years, the New York Knicks are one win away from an NBA championship thanks to one of the greatest NBA playoff comebacks of all time.

Thanks to Captain Clutch, a.k.a. Jalen Brunson, and Karl-Anthony Towns‘ resurgence after being held to only 11 points in Game 3, the Knicks are going back to Texas with a chance to win it all in San Antonio after the team defeated the Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, June 10, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The physical series — in which Knicks fans and critics called foul after Victor Wembanyama did not receive a flagrant foul on Brunson after seemingly crossing the line in a Game 3 moment — took an unexpected turn. The Knicks were down 76-49 at halftime and clawed all the way back throughout the second half. In the fourth quarter, they finally took the lead, and won 107-106. OG Anunoby made the game-winning shot with just over a second left.

Security was tight before Game 4, much like Game 3 on Monday, June 8, when President Donald Trump was in attendance.

Instead of the president, Game 4 attracted dozens of celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Mariska Hargitay, Spike Lee, Adam Sandler, Tracy Morgan and Michael J. Fox.

An extensive perimeter around Madison Square Garden and other restrictions were in place, which came after more than 20 people were arrested for inciting violence near Bryant Park watch party on Monday night.

Officials with the home team’s venue were not fans of the new security measures.

“The last several victories the Knicks have had have been celebrated by thousands and thousands outside MSG,” an MSG arena spokesperson told CNN. “The joy and happiness were palpable everywhere. Apparently Mayor [Zohran] Mamdani and Police Commissioner [Jessica] Tisch, despite what they say, don’t want to see these celebrations happen.”

The best-of-7 series heads back to San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday, June 13.
