Germany have officially named Jurgen Klopp as their next head coach.
Klopp returns to management two years after leaving Liverpool, taking over from Julian Nagelsmann at the national team.
Germany were knocked out in the round of 32 at the World Cup after losing on penalties to Paraguay, a defeat which led to Nagelsmann’s departure from the role.
Klopp has now signed a four-year deal with Germany, which will see him guide the team at Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, should they qualify.
“The national team can unite us Germans like almost nothing else. That’s precisely what makes this task so special for me,” said Klopp.
“I’m grateful for everything I’ve experienced and learned at Red Bull over the past year and a half, and for the openness that made this agreement possible.
“Now I’m looking forward to this special task in German football, which we will approach together with humility and patience: developing a team that fights for each other, that enjoys football, and behind which the people of our country can rally with complete conviction.”

Klopp has overseen 1,080 matches across his managerial career, coaching Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, winning 588 of those (D256 L236).
His 431 in charge of Liverpool is the third-most by a manager in the club’s history (behind Bill Shankly’s 799 and Bob Paisley’s 523), while he has won the seventh-most points amongst Premier League managers in history (705), but boasts the third-best points-per-game average (2.11).
Klopp oversaw four Premier League seasons in which Liverpool remained unbeaten at home (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2021-22) – no other manager achieved that many. And in 2018-19, Liverpool won the most Premier League points in a season without winning the title (97).
Meanwhile, during his time in Germany, no manager has taken charge of more Bundesliga games for Dortmund than Klopp (238). His 318 matches in all competitions are also a club record, and he boasts the most wins (179).
He is one of just two managers to win the Bundesliga more than once with Dortmund, along with Ottmar Hitzfeld (both have two).
Klopp also boasts the most games managed in Mainz’s history (266), the most wins (106), and the most goals scored (417).
The 59-year-old is one of just nine managers to take charge of at least 100 Champions League matches (100 with Dortmund and Liverpool), while his 56 wins are the eighth-most in the competition’s history.
Klopp’s first game as Germany boss comes against Netherlands in the Nations League in September.
Germany will also face Serbia and Greece in Group 2 of League A in the competition.
