The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Kebbi State chapter, has demanded a minimum monthly transport allowance of N70,000 for workers to cushion the impact of rising commuting costs.
The state chairman of the union, Murtala Usman, disclosed this on Monday, saying the union would soon meet with Governor Nasir Idris to present its demand.
Usman said the proposal was agreed upon at a stakeholders’ meeting involving the NLC’s affiliate unions in the state.
He said the proposed allowance should cover all categories of public sector workers, including teachers, local government employees, health workers and other civil servants.
“We are demanding a minimum of N70,000 or above, and we want the allowance to cover all categories of workers without discrimination,” he said.
The labour leader added that the union had begun consultations with members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly to seek their support before presenting the proposal to the state government.
He said the allowance would help ease the financial burden on workers struggling with rising transportation costs.
