Kam Perry’s return to Colorado Buffaloes practice has changed the outlook for the Buffaloes’ receiving corps ahead of Thursday’s season opener at Georgia Tech. The senior wide receiver was back in a yellow, non-contact jersey Aug. 26 after missing roughly two weeks with an elbow injury.
Deion Sanders has remained optimistic about Perry’s availability. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound receiver is expected to suit up when Colorado visits Georgia Tech on Sept. 3, giving quarterback Julian Lewis a proven downfield target.
Perry produced 43 receptions for 976 yards and six touchdowns at Miami (Ohio) in 2025. His 22.7 yards per catch ranked third nationally, and he earned First-Team All-MAC honors along with Miami’s Offensive MVP award.
Perry’s return to practice last week is a gradual ramp-up before kickoff. The yellow practice jersey allowed him to participate in drills without taking full contact, as he was still wearing a brace on his left arm.
Many practice clips from the first week of fall camp in Colorado Springs showed Perry with exceptional agility and quickness. Colorado coaches have a few days to determine Perry’s workload in the game, as a managed snap count remains possible, with the expectation that he will be included in important offensive packages.
Perry began his college career at Indiana, where he recorded three receptions for 22 yards across two seasons. He transferred to Miami (Ohio) and made an immediate contribution in 2024 with 10 catches for 166 yards.
His breakout came the following year. Perry started 12 games and became one of the nation’s most dangerous big-play receivers.
Perry also brings value inside the formation. Roughly 60% of his snaps came from the slot last season, where his acceleration and route timing helped him create separation. His run-blocking skills also show his willingness to contribute when Colorado has the ball on the ground.
Brennan Marion’s offense gives Perry room to work from the slot and outside. His speed can stretch a defense vertically, and his short-area quickness creates opportunities on underneath routes.
Danny Scudero Jr., DeAndre Moore, Joseph Williams and Cam Perry all give Colorado a deep group of skill-position options when healthy. Georgia Tech‘s secondary will have to account for Perry’s alignment on every series.
Perry’s return also gives Lewis another receiver with proven production. His ability to win individual matchups could become one of Colorado’s most important offensive storylines Thursday night.
