One of the greatest pitchers of his generation is calling it a career.
Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander announced Tuesday that the 2026 season will be his last, bringing an end to a remarkable Major League Baseball career that has spanned more than two decades and cemented his place among the sport’s all-time greats.
Verlander shared the news in a heartfelt statement, thanking the Commissioner of Baseball for selecting him to the 2026 All-Star Game before revealing that he has decided this will be his final season.

“But first, I’m excited to finish this season the only way I know how, with everything I’ve got.”
