The Golden State Valkyries are achieving unprecedented success in the WNBA before even making it to the WNBA Finals.

The WNBA has been making history when it comes to their exponential growth in the last few seasons. A lot of it has been credited to Caitlin Clark’s arrival in the league, along with other young superstars like Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers.

The Indiana Fever regularly draw the most viewership on TV, which is a big talking point among Clark’s supporters and the team’s fans. There is a lot more going on behind the scenes that fans don’t usually know about, though. And the Golden State Valkyries’ success has seen them achieve a significant milestone in women’s sports that no other team has managed to reach so far.

Golden State Valkyries become first women’s sports team to generate $100 million in annual revenue

The Valkyries are within one win of making the WNBA Finals in just their second season as a franchise. Having gone 2-0 up against the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces, they have put themselves in the perfect position to achieve the ultimate success.

According to a recent report, though, the Valkyries are already succeeding financially at a level which no other women’s sports team has before.

“The world’s first women’s sports team to generate $100 million in annual revenue,” Sportico reported about Golden State. “The Valkyries are an outlier in their league in terms of revenue. The franchise generated $78 million in revenue in its first season, which was then a women’s record and 48% more than the Indiana Fever, who ranked second.

“Regular season revenue came in above expectations at $100 million, thanks to strong performance on the partnership side and the team’s on-court performance.”

The Valkyries are setting the standard for any new franchises coming into the sport. Being in San Francisco is certainly a boost for them, but the organisation deserves a lot of credit for how they have managed to make the most of it.
