Just in: Barcelona and Man City reach €50 million agreement for the transfer of Rodri

In a major development, journalist Marta Ramon of RAC1 reports that FC Barcelona and Manchester City have now reached an agreement for the transfer of Rodri.

The deal for the 30-year-old World Cup winner is set to be closed for a fee of around €50 million.

The document-exchange between the two clubs will be finalised in the coming hours, with the Spanish international expected to arrive in Catalonia on August 12.

Agreement reached

This development comes only a little while after multiple reliable sources reported that Manchester City had turned down Barcelona’s opening offer for Rodri.

That proposal was said to be around €45 million plus another €5 million in add-ons, which the Cityzens were quick to shut down.

The Athletic reported that Manchester City valued Rodri at a mammoth €80 million, but it appears that the Blaugrana’s improved offer of around €50 million has now been accepted.

While confirmation is awaited from more sources, this is certainly a huge development and could be counted as a steal if the deal is indeed closed for a fee of €50 million.

Four-year contract agreed

Meanwhile, as already reported, Rodri has agreed a four-year contract with Barcelona and will earn an annual gross salary of €30 million during his time with the La Liga champions.

The Spaniard, for the longest time this summer, appeared to be headed to Real Madrid, but was happy to change his mind when Barça entered the race and presented him with a concrete proposal.

Hansi Flick is understood to have played a key role in convincing the 30-year-old, along with the Barcelona players who played with Rodri in the national team.

If everything goes according to plan, the expectation is that the documents will be exchanged in the coming hours and the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner will arrive in Barcelona next week to sign his contract and be presented as the club’s latest signing.

Rodri’s arrival will without a doubt elevate this Barcelona roster to another level. The 30-year-old arrives after a stunning World Cup campaign where he won the Golden Ball and will add his immense experience and winning mentality to a relatively inexperienced squad.
