Jürgen Klopp joining the DFB has followed a similar path as many recent Germany managers. An established German coach with success in the Bundesliga, and seen as someone who could be a savior to the German national team after Joachim Löw. Unfortunately, that wasn’t meant to be for Hansi Flick or Julian Nagelsmann. Now with Klopp, Germany can turn a new page, and it appears that it will be an interesting chapter.
An interesting story in the Klopp era was that the former Liverpool boss had big plans for change at the DFB and based on reports from this week, that is an understatement. According to reports from Sky Germany report Florian Plettenberg, Jürgen Klopp is planning to name an XXL squad on Thursday for the start of the UEFA Nations League campaign.
Reports state that the new manager wants to see as many players as possible with no exact number of players has decided yet. There are set to be two blocks of players for the four matches. It is certainly interesting verbiage to use here. Will there be 15 or so players that are staples with two separate blocks of additional players that will split the halves of the international break?
It is very unclear on what this all means but it will be interesting to see what happens. It is certainly an opportunity to really experiment but it almost seems like there is no clear plan yet. Luckily, Klopp’s leash will be a long one but this seems fairly unconventional. Let him cook?
