Captain Jack Sparrow may sail the seas again, but only under one condition.
Although Pirates of the Caribbean is based on the Disney ride at Magic Kingdom, Johnny Depp made Captain Jack Sparrow an icon in the first movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl. As a result, the dark attraction spawned a major movie franchise that spawned four sequels. However, it’s now been nine years since Depp portrayed Jack Sparrow, and hopes for a sixth movie have been in limbo. That attitude changed this past August, when producer Jerry Bruckheimer indicated some movement with the star player.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Depp responded when asked whether he and Bruckheimer could set sail again, briefly smiling that “Well, I don’t know if you’ll see us set sail. We might do that privately.” While careful with his words, he shared that his one return condition is that “the only involvement I really want to have truly is send them off on a better note.”
“If things are exactly where they need to be with regard to how they’re going to top off the Pirates thing, the only involvement I really want to have truly is just to send them off on a better note. [Laughs] I’ll go to work with Bruckheimer tomorrow for anything. Doesn’t matter, if it’s Jerry, I trust him and we have deep friendship. “
