It doesn’t feel like the New York Jets have to go out and add another quarterback right now, but there is an argument to be made that if they don’t believe Geno Smith is the guy to lead them over the next couple of years, though there is a contract situation that has to be figured out beyond this season, bringing in another young quarterback could be at the top of the priority list.
The Jets will ultimately have to decide what they want to do, and there’s even a chance it could come at the cost of a former New England Patriots quarterback.
That would be none other than Mac Jones, who finds himself in a position to get traded because of how well Brock Purdy has played.
With Purdy injured last season, Jones had a chance to step in and show what he still has. He played much better in San Francisco than he did with the Patriots, with some suggesting he could be one of the top trade candidates at this year’s deadline.
Bleacher Report recently linked him to the Jets, which would be an interesting outcome after everything that happened in New England.
“Brock Purdy hasn’t been sacked yet this season, but the Niners have experienced enough other early injuries to value proven depth behind him.
“With quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels getting closer to a return, there isn’t a clear suitor that would pay the hefty price to pry Jones out of San Francisco right now.
“That could change before November 10, though, and we could see teams that lack a QB plan beyond 2026 enter the mix as well. Potential Suitors: Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets,” Bleacher Report wrote.
Most Patriots fans likely won’t worry much about Jones ending up in New York, though there’s a strong argument he’d be one of the better quarterbacks they’ve had in quite some time.
Smith and the older Aaron Rodgers have been the Jets’ two better quarterbacks in recent years, which isn’t exactly saying much.
