Texas softball is playing Texas Tech in the Women’s College World Series and the Red Raiders have a famous Red Raider in attendance for Game 2

In one of the boxes at Devon Park in Oklahoma City was former Texas Tech quarterback and current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany. They also were in attendance last season for Game 2 which the Red Raiders won to even the WCWS championship series.

The three-time Super Bowl champion helped play a role in getting Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady to come and stay at Tech through his NIL group Team Mahomes. The group helps provide NIL deals for Texas Tech athletes.

Mahomes had 22 touchdowns and 3,587 yards last season before suffering an ACL injury. Earlier in the year he gave Canady her Golden Ticket for the AUSL draft and was picked second overall by the Texas Volts. 

Another famous celebrity in the crowd is former NBA point guard Jason Williams, the father of Tech second baseman Mia Williams. The elder Williams was drafted in the first round of the 1998 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings and won a championship in 2006 with the Miami Heat.

From bad blood with his alma mater during the Gainesville Super Regional to supporting his daughter, Williams left OKC before Game 1 against the Longhorns. He explained why on former NFL tight end Greg Olsen’s podcast.

“I feel like I was feeling too much heat out there to be honest with you, bro,” Williams said. “It was all about me, Greg, and I decided — as a dad — to come on back home and let them girls shine, bro. I’ve had my shine, mine’s over. It’s time for them girls to shine.”

But Williams is back in the crowd.
