James Harrison calls out Steelers' 10-year playoff drought in rant

Two-time Super Bowl champion James Harrison isn’t holding back on his former team. Joined by co-host and fellow retired Pro Bowler Joe Haden on his “Deebo & Joe” podcast, the legendary linebacker delivered a scathing critique of the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ front-office management, targeting their outdated contract negotiation tactics and mediocre expectations.

Harrison zeroed in on the contract standoff and ultimate trade of young star cornerback Joey Porter Jr. He argued that Pittsburgh’s penny-pinching front office is actively harming roster depth and on-field performance.

“This is why you don’t sit there and twiddle your thumbs and play with your a– when it come time to get the man a deal and don’t even offer him nothing,” Harrison argued. “I hear from the horse’s mouth that if somebody had just offered him a deal, he would have been practicing the whole time. Come on. They playing that old school way.”

According to Harrison, the franchise’s stubbornness stems from an outdated mindset that prioritizes rigid tradition over retaining core talent in today’s NFL. When met with the notion that “that’s just the way it is” in Pittsburgh, Harrison pulled no punches, connecting the front-office philosophy directly to the franchise’s decade-long postseason slump.

“You got to keep the players that you got, to do what you got to do, to keep talent,” Harrison insisted. “You want to win or you want to stick to something? That’s just the way it is? No, it’s not. The way it is is we ain’t won a playoff game in 10 years. Yep. That’s what the way it is. It’s still a way now. It’s .500. It’s still a way now. It’s maybe drag you’re a** into the playoffs and get kicked out.”

Harrison’s fiery breakdown highlights a growing divide between traditional front-office protocol and the modern urgency required to contend, leaving fans wondering if Pittsburgh’s strategy is simply delaying necessary growth.
