We were expecting the worst when we saw safety/linebacker Jamal Adams get carted off the field in the second quarter of the Minnesota Vikings’ 13-10 preseason win over the New York Giants on Saturday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. Sadly, those expectations were confirmed a short time ago.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network has confirmed that the non-contact injury that Adams sustained to his right knee on Saturday afternoon was a season-ending one. His chance to play a significant role in Brian Flores’ defense in 2026 is over before it really got started.

The injury came on the play that saw the Giants score their lone touchdown of the afternoon, as Jaxson Dart broke out of the pocket and scrambled to his left before finding rookie Malachi Fields for a 15-yard touchdown. Adams was flowing towards the play and went down without being touched. He went to the injury tent after the play, and after that was taken back to the locker room on a cart.

Adams had made a really nice tackle for loss on the previous defensive series. You hate to see something like this for a veteran like him, as from all reports he had really gotten up to speed on the defense quickly and was poised to be the sort of player that Flores could move around to different spots in the Vikings’ defensive scheme.

There has not been any word yet on the injury to quarterback Max Brosmer, who was supposed to finish out the fourth quarter of yesterday’s game but was pulled after one series with an injury to his right wrist. Carson Wentz, who played most of the third quarter, went back into the game in Brosmer’s place and finished out the contest. When we get an update on that injury, we will pass that one along to you as well.
