Vanderbilt football can deliver a massive statement Saturday by stunning No. 2 Georgia. Even after the Bulldogs’ epic beatdown of 2025 College Football Playoff team Oklahoma. But Vandy faces rolling without starting quarterback Jared Curtis for this showdown.
Curtis landed in the “questionable” category on the injury report released by the SEC Wednesday. This could alter the Commodores’ offense once more under head coach Clark Lea.
Vandy previously turned to an RPO (Run Pass Option) offense with Diego Pavia. Including leaning into Pavia’s mobility to win games. That led to the 5-foot-9 QB rising as a Heisman Trophy finalist before losing to Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza.

Curtis arrived as a prized five-star signing for Lea and the Commodores. He became the first-ever five-star addition in the era of College Football Recruiting rankings. Curtis’s addition showed that Vanderbilt has grown popular among recruits in recent years, especially through Lea’s coaching.
The big 6-foot-4 passer has flashed his potential; completing 63% of his throws while throwing four touchdowns. Curtis also has tossed three interceptions while starting in the last two games. Curtis does bring his own mobility too, adding 133 yards on 41 carries.
But now once again, Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart may need to prepare for a second quarterback ahead of Saturday. Blaze Berlowitz could receive the nod here if Curtis can’t go. He’s a senior and shares a previous New Mexico State connection with Pavia. Berlowitz has tossed 178 yards so far this season.
So a Vanderbilt upset could come with a different QB behind center. But such a feat would become the second-biggest win in program history. Ranking this with Vandy’s all-time stunner over No. 1 Alabama in Oct. 2024.
