Jaissle already 'in love' with Hall contribution

Matthias Jaissle could not have been clearer last month.

When Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel informed him that his former side were looking at Lewis Hall, the Newcastle United head coach uttered two simple words in response.

“No chance,” he said.

Newcastle sold Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon during a summer of huge change, but the club were unequivocal about Hall.

The defender now looks set to sign a new deal.

“Without speaking about his contract, I can just say that I’m in love with what I’ve seen so far from him,” Jaissle said at his news conference on Thursday.

“He’s an amazing player with huge potential still, and this makes me so happy to, hopefully, have him here for the next years in the long term.”

Hall has been a real outlet for Newcastle under Jaissle and grabbed his second assist of the campaign after setting up Joe Willock’s late winner in the 1-0 victory at Millwall in the Carabao Cup earlier this week.

It feels like there is still more to come from the 22-year-old, who is pushing for a recall to the England squad after missing out on the World Cup.

“He’s fitting so good to this identity, how we want to play football,” Jaissle said. “Again he’s doing an excellent job.”
