Warning! The following contains SPOILERS for Absolute Batman .
If Absolute Batman has proven anything beyond a shadow of a doubt, it’s that it’s determined to end every issue with at least one massive bombshell that preserves the series’ dramatic suspense and leaves readers highly anticipating whenever the next issue arrives, including the reveal that Martha Wayne is a member of the Court of Owls or Clayface’s telegraphed murder of the Robins’ Tim Drake. By all means, Absolute Batman‘s climactic 25th issue is no different.
For instance, though Absolute Batman launched today and finally featured the Absolute universe’s first fight between Batman and Joker, the fight itself was maybe the third most interesting thing about the book. On its last page, specifically, a twist comes to light that will undoubtedly give the next 25 issues of Absolute Batman a wholly unique tone, as well as a change to the status quo that no reader may have foreseen arriving this early.
While Bruce Wayne licks his wounds after Harley Quinn and the Bat rescued him from Joker, Selina Kyle appears out of nowhere, cradling a prominent baby bump. All she says is, “Bruce…” and Bruce’s stunned gaze expresses his acknowledgment of the situation.
Selina left Gotham after Absolute Batman to star in her standalone limited series, Absolute Catwoman. Bafflingly, Absolute Catwoman was just extended to 12 issues, and it’s anyone’s guess as to how both Absolute Batman and Absolute Catwoman will tackle her pregnancy and motherhood as vital parts of her story and character going forward.
He’s more in shock than anything else, and it’s impossible to discern whether he’ll be happy or horrified when he processes the idea that he’s a father. Seeing as Bruce is 24 years old in Absolute Batman, this will officially be the youngest that Bruce ever was when he became a biological father.

This conclusion is narratively profound for the book and leaves it on its steepest cliffhanger yet. Indeed, Absolute Batman won’t be releasing its 26th issue until January 13, 2027, meaning we’ve now received all the Absolute Batman content that is scheduled for the rest of 2026.
Amusingly, this hiatus can immersively emphasize the time jump that reportedly occurs within the story itself, either preceding issue or sometime between issues –28. If this time jump is enormous, we might see Bruce training a prepubescent child to be a crime-fighter, though it’s unlikely he’ll be a “Robin,” per se, even if Bruce and Selina decide to name the child “Damian.”
It’ll be odd if Joker, Clayface, and other high-profile villains don’t run amok and wreak havoc in the meantime, but Barbara Gordon and Harley Quinn may be up to the task of thwarting them on their own while Bruce and Selina raise their kid. Likewise, it’ll be neat to see how Bruce and Selina’s childhood friends react to the news, now that Eddie, Ozzie, Harv, and Way have drawn a line in the sand between themselves and Bruce. The solicitation for Absolute Batman reads as follows:
ENTER THE BAT! Barbara Gordon’s obsession with solving her father’s murder brings her deeper and deeper into the horrors lying beneath Gotham City and the evil forces who put them here. The more she uncovers, the more she connects the dots to motives and to her and her father’s past, digging up the dirt on his murder…and their future. A future revealed at the end of the issue that leaves your jaw on the floor.
