“It’s a life sentence for me” — Miriam Haley speaks after Weinstein’s 15-year sentence

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in New York in 2006.

Haley addressed the court before Weinstein was sentenced, describing the lasting effect of the assault and the years she spent pursuing justice.

“Being sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away,” Haley said.

She added that speaking out had come with continued fear and scrutiny, saying, “It’s a life sentence for me.”

Weinstein, 74, maintained his innocence while asking the court for leniency. 

He expressed remorse for Haley’s pain but insisted he did not commit the offence.

“I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence,” Weinstein told the judge.

The sentence followed his conviction at a retrial after his original 23-year New York sentence was overturned by the state’s highest court in 2024.

At the retrial, Weinstein was convicted over the assault involving Haley but acquitted of a separate charge involving former model Kaja Sokola. 

Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on a rape charge involving Jessica Mann.

Weinstein is also facing a separate 16-year sentence in California stemming from a rape conviction.
