Is Trump attending any World Cup games? Infantino said gave him this role

President Donald Trump has repeatedly boasted about being in office for three major U.S. events: America 250, the 2028 Summer Olympics and the World Cup. One of them starts June 11.

The US, Mexico and Canada are co-hosting the 2026 Men’s World Cup after winning the bid under Trump’s first presidency.

Trump has been to several sporting events as president, including a FIFA Club World Cup final on July 13, where he went viral for celebrating on stage with the winning team. FIFA president Gianni Infantino is also a key Trump ally. He gave Trump an inaugural FIFA Peace Prize in December, before the US and Israel attacked Iran.

Will Trump be in attendance at the World Cup games? Here is what we know.

President Donald Trump with his grand daughter Kai Trump (L), Knicks owner James Dolan (3L), US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum (3R) and Environmental Protection Agency director Lee Zeldin (2R) attend Game Three of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 8, 2026.

After a few chants of “USA, USA, USA” for the flag, Trump was booed loudly when he was shown on the large video screens during the national anthem.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump’s World Cup plans.

Infantino said in January that Trump will co-present the World Cup-winning trophy on July 19 following the final match.

“This trophy will be handed out on the 19th of July to the captain of the team who will win the World Cup,” Infantino said. “I will give it together with the President of the United States, the host country. Nobody can touch this trophy.”

No. Washington, D.C., lost its bid to host a game. Mayor Muriel Bowser said of the failed bid, “we tried.”
