Portugal came to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with high expectations.
So far, they haven’t really been met.
Portugal drew with DR Congo in its opening match, thrashed Uzbekistan in its second match and then drew 0-0 with Colombia on Saturday night.
For a team with championship aspirations, it’s certainly underwhelming.
The good news is the journey isn’t done yet.

Is Portugal still in the World Cup?
Portugal remains alive in the World Cup.
Its draw with Colombia meant that the Portuguese finished second in their group. That’s good enough for automatic advancement.
It matches them up with Croatia in the Round of 32.
Colombia matches up with Ghana after winning the group.
The thing about Portugal is that its talent and depth can still shine throughout the course of a long tournament. In some ways, things are just getting started.
But if Portugal was hoping to hit the ground running at this World Cup, that hasn’t quite happened so far. There’s still lots of work to do.
