Ireland have moved up one spot to 11th place in the men’s Twenty20 Cricket world rankings after their historic win over India.
On Friday, Ireland picked up their first-ever win over the world champions and top-ranked T20 side in the world with a 34-run victory at Stormont.
It was the first victory over India in nine attempts in T20 interantionals, and the 12th time in any format.
Then, on Sunday, Ireland held on to inflict a first series defeat on India since 2023 with a dramatic one-run victory.
After that win, head coach Heinrich Malan stepped down and was replaced by former Ireland international Gary Wilson.
The T20 rankings will have an impact on qualification as cricket joins the Olympic schedule for the first time for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
The top team from each continent – currently India, England, South Africa and Australia – will join hosts USA, while the final spot at the Games will be secured by one of the next eight ranked teams, who will play a qualifier to make it to LA.
Ireland’s only other scheduled matches this summer are a five-game one-day international series with Afghanistan in August.
The series will serve as preparation for the Cricket World Cup qualifiers next year.
