Ipswich Town have made their second goalkeeper signing of the transfer window, with Kjell Scherpen arriving from Union Saint-Gilloise in a deal reportedly worth up to £11m.
The Tractor Boys have already added to their options between the sticks by bringing in 22-year-old shot-stopper Kayne van Oevelen from Volendam earlier this month.
But he will have to compete with another Dutchman, after towering six-foot-nine goalkeeper Scherpen penned a four-year deal at Portman Road.
He could become the tallest player to ever appear in a Premier League game, with that record currently held by former Manchester City and Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon (six foot eight).
Ipswich have now made eight signings ahead of their return to the Premier League, also acquiring Emersonn, Abdul Fatawu, Issa Diop, Daizen Maeda, Chuba Akpom, Cedric Kipre and Van Oevelen.
Scherpen told the club’s website: “This is a great opportunity for me to show my qualities and test myself in the best league in the world, so I’m really looking forward to making memories together.
“I’ve had great conversations and everything here has been really positive, so it’s made me very excited to join Ipswich Town.
“I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates and can’t wait to meet the fans and get started.”

Scherpen kept a division-high 16 clean sheets in the Belgian Pro League last season, conceding just 20 goals in 32 appearances.
His save percentage of 74.68% was also the best such figure by any goalkeeper to play at least 20 games in the Belgian top flight, as Union SG finished as runners-up to Club Brugge.
