Daizen Maeda has completed his transfer from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to Premier League side Ipswich Town.

The striker has signed a three-year deal at Portman Road after both clubs agreed on a reported £10m fee for the Japan international.

The 28-year-old joined Celtic in January 2021 and went on to make 212 appearances for the club, scoring 79 goals and providing 39 assists.

Since making his debut for Celtic, only James Tavernier (100) and Lawrence Shankland (97) have directly contributed to more goals in the Scottish Premiership than Maeda (79 – 50 goals and 29 assists).

He won 10 trophies with Celtic, including five league titles, but will now look to help newly promoted Ipswich remain in the Premier League.

The likes of Issa Diop, Emersonn and Chuba Akpom have also joined Ipswich this summer.

“I am very proud to sign for Ipswich Town,” Maeda told the club website.

“I have always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and I am very happy I can realise that dream with this club.

“I have loved all of the conversations with the club and they have made me feel very welcome.

“My aim will always be to battle hard, score goals, and provide assists for my team – I will always run and give everything that I have.

“I am excited to learn more about the club and meet the supporters.”

Ipswich, who finished second in the Championship last season, begin their Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland on August 22.

They then face a difficult trip to Old Trafford, before returning to Portman Road to host Liverpool.
