Intel: More positive recruit reactions from Michigan Football vs WMU

Michigan Football made a strong impression on even more prospects who visited The Big House on Saturday. The latest intel here:

*** We won’t talk much about 2028 four-star linebacker Jay Schell — a surprise visitor last weekend — as Maize n Brew will publish our interview with him soon. But it’s important to note he told us he’s “glad he did” visit last weekend. Schell is one of the top linebacker targets for the Wolverines next cycle as the team looks to gain momentum heading into his decision that’ll include Clemson and Oklahoma as well.

*** Maize n Brew spoke with Gregory Montre, trainer and mentor of both 2028 four-star cornerback Kinnard Mahomes and 2028 linebacker Cyrus Zuah. They are teammates at Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph and it was their first game day experience at The Big House. Montre was on the trip with them and said: “They loved it. Thought it was one of the best game day visits we’ve been on.” The group got to meet with cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford and linebackers coach Alex Whittingham. Zuah ended up walking away with an offer, while Mahomes already had an offer.

*** 2028 four-star Chilicothe (Ohio) High running back Cartae Ligon, one of the top priorities for Michigan regardless of position, returned to campus following his spring practice appearance a few months. He said: “The visit went great. Had a great time with my family.” Maize n Brew also caught up with Darren Gammell, founder of the Darren Junior Recruiting Source LLC, who works closely with Ligon; he it was good for Ligon to get another chance to spend time with everyone in the program, including primary recruiter Tony Alford.

*** Another running back who took in the festivities on Saturday was 2027 three-star in-state running back commit Lundon Hampton. One thing we wrote about in our Saturday halftime intel story was that he was seen talking extensively during warmups with 2028 athlete Marquis Ray, a perennial pledge candidate. Hampton and Ray are 7v7 teammates with Detroit-based SoundMind SoundBody, so they were able to catch up and talk about each other’s respective recruiting journeys.

Here’s what Hampton said about his first game at Michigan since committing: “They got off to a strong start but couldn’t really get much going after that. The defense did a good job holding them to just four field goals. I’m not too worried, though. I know they’ll clean things up and get back to being the Michigan we all know.”

*** Finally, one-of-two offered 2028 prospects native to the Chicago area who visited was three-star tight end Jack McNamara. Like Ligon, it was his first time back since the spring, and the evening really impressed him and his family: “The visit was great. Had an amazing time speaking to the staff and coaches, and the atmosphere was insane at The Big House.”
