Indiana Fever veteran guard out for season with injury. What it means for roster

LAS VEGAS — Indiana Fever backup guard Tyasha Harris will miss the remainder of the season with a broken left fibula, the team announced Saturday.

Harris landed awkwardly on her left ankle after going up for a shot in the third quarter of Indiana‘s regular season finale against Minnesota on Thursday, and she was in immediate pain as her foot appeared to roll up underneath her. Her teammates and coaches surrounded her, and trainers eventually carried her off the floor.

This is a heartbreaking end of the season for Harris, a Fishers native who signed with the Fever on a one-year deal for the 2026 season following a left knee injury that sidelined her for all but five games in 2025. She worked her way back to game shape through Indiana’s training camp and eventually became a vital part of the Fever’s rotation behind starting guards, bringing a veteran presence to Indiana’s second unit.

Harris averaged 4.1 points and 2.0 assists per game throughout the 2026 season. She has been a role player that can step up as needed for Indiana, as evidenced by her 16-point outing against Los Angeles while starting in place of an injured Caitlin Clark in June and a 15-point game when she was 5 for 5 from 3-point range against Dallas in August.

This is the second season-ending injury for the Fever this season. Damiris Dantas was ruled out for the season in August with a meniscus injury. Indiana received a hardship exception for Dantas’ injury, subsequently signing Mercedes Russell.

With the postseason starting Sunday, Indiana cannot add any player on a hardship contract. The deadline for teams to apply for season-ending injury exceptions is with four weeks left in the season. Emergency hardship exceptions only come into play when teams have 10 or fewer players available, and the Fever will have 11 through the playoffs. Indiana’s development players, Bree Hall and Michelle Onyiah, are also not eligible for the playoffs.

Harris’s absence will give rookie Raven Johnson, who has seen her minutes waver heavily throughout the season, a much bigger role in the most important time of the year. Johnson has averaged 10.9 minutes per game in 39 games this season, with 3.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.

The sixth-seeded Fever open the playoffs against the third-seeded Aces in Las Vegas at 4 p.m. Sunday.
