Chelsea Are In The Running To Land This Atletico Madrid Talent: Should Alonso Bring Him On Board?

In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Chelsea are in the running to land Atletico Madrid talent Marcos Llorente. It is understood that the Blues are facing competition from Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to acquire the services of the Spanish right-back next year.

Llorente’s Decent Form In La Liga This Season

Llorente is having a solid campaign at the Madrid club as he has already put in a few impressive displays on the right side of their backline. The Spanish international has found the back of the net once and secured one assist in eight matches for Los Blancos last season across all competitions.

The 31-year-old is currently one of the most talented full-backs in La Liga. Hence, it is no wonder that the Blues are eyeing a move to sign him next year.

His current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano will expire at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Chelsea to sign him on the cheap this January or on a free transfer next summer.

Should Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso Bring Llorente On Board?

Llorente is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and is full of energy and running on the right flank.

The Spaniard can even chip in by scoring and creating the odd goal for his team. Llorente mainly functions as a right-back but can also serve as a right-sided wide player or a box-to-box midfielder if needed. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.

Llorente would bring more experience and depth to Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming years.

At 31, Llorente might still have a few good years left in him to play at his best. Therefore, Alonso would be wise to bring him on board this January or sign him on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
