Reigning T20I world champions, India, suffered a defeat against Ireland in the first of the two-match T20I series in Belfast on Friday.
It was the first time India took the field in a T20I game since winning the World Cup on home soil in March after beating New Zealand in the final.
After captain Lorcan Tucker helped Ireland to a challenging total of 182/9, India’s star-studded batting line-up crumbled for 148 in 18.5 overs. The 34-run victory was Ireland’s first win over India in any format.
Shreyas Iyer, who has now been appointed as the captain of the Indian T20I side in place of Suryakumar Yadav, will hope that the Men in Blue bounce back in style and level the series.
