‘I’m really striving for that’: Seahawks QB Sam Darnold gives injury update

Seahawks’ quarterback Sam Darnold is back at practice and feeling good.

After going down with a glute injury week one, Darnold returned to practice Wednesday, Sept. 23, and gave a more personal update on his injury Thursday, Sept. 24.

“Feeling good,” Darnold said. “Just taking it day by day, continuing to balance reps, and do everything I need to do to get ready.”

Besides a general update on his current health, Darnold provided some insight into how he felt the moments and hours after the initial injury.

“Lot of different emotions, lot of possibilities in terms of how long I’d be out and possibilities of different injuries,” Darnold said. “After I got the CT scan…that was kind of when the doc brought the good news to me.”

When asked about a possible return for this Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, Darnold was hesitant to confirm anything.

“I’m really striving for that,” Darnold said. “But, again, like I said, I’m just taking it day by day. Also, don’t want to jinx anything.”

Darnold also gave his flowers to quarterback Drew Lock, who filled in when Darnold went down.

“None of us in this building are surprised at what happened,” Darnold said. “He’s a baller.”

As for his injury, Darnold wants to make sure his entire body is aligned before taking a single snap Sunday.

“I think just mentally, having confidence, having confidence in my body,” Darnold added. “If I need to take off, feeling good about sliding, and doing all the football things. Worrying about playing football, not worrying about the hip, at all.”

Darnold also mentioned that keeping his muscle injury “loose and strong” will also be a key to his return.

The Seahawks take on the Commanders Sunday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. in Maryland.
