Following Bello’s demotion to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, the 27-year-old pitcher answered questions for nearly 15 minutes ahead of the WooSox’ game.
“I feel much better today,” Bello said through translator Daveson Pérez. “Feeling like I’m ready to do what I need to do down here so I can go back to the show. And you can imagine, (I) just want to be back up there.”

On Thursday, Bello met with media inside the Red Sox clubhouse at Fenway Park after his latest outing with Boston — where Bello labored through a six-run first inning against the Baltimore Orioles.
When asked if he might benefit from some time spent in AAA, the pitcher balked.
“Stop that talk,” Bello said through a translator.
Then, when asked about whether it would favor him more to come out of the bullpen and not start games, Bello scoffed at that idea.
“First of all, just stop talking about bullpen and starting games. I’ve always been a starter and when I’ve been successful as a starter, no one has questioned whether I have to be in the bullpen or starting games,” Bello said on June 4. “So, starting from there, just stop that talk, I’m just having a bad season.”
Shortly after that postgame press conference, Bello was told he was being sent down to Triple-A Worcester.
“When I got the unfortunate news, I shed some tears, got a little emotional because, like I said before, I have so much love and passion for this game,” Bello said. “And to get that bad news was really tough. But we’re better today.”

Bello has posted a 6.34 ERA (43 ER/61.0 IP) with 44 strikeouts in 12 games (8 starts) for the Red Sox this season. In eight starts he has allowed 41 earned runs in 35.2 IP (10.35 ERA), but in his four bulk relief outings he has given up just two earned runs in 25.1 IP (0.74 ERA).
“We have a lot of belief in Brayan as a major-league starter, but felt like he was putting a ton of pressure on himself, and this was no longer the best place for him to reset and work through the struggles,” Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told media in New York on June 5. “… I agree that Brayan is a major-league starter. … We need to kind of recapture that form.”
Bello was signed by Boston as an international free agent in July 2017. The Dominican Republic native has gone 41-42 with a 4.32 ERA and 508 strikeouts in 112 career Major League games (105 starts), all with the Red Sox (2022-26).
Breslow mentioned on Friday that when he first joined the Red Sox, Bello was a guy that had a big personality and loved to pitch.
“We lost that a little bit, where he was putting a ton of pressure on himself to go out and perform,” Breslow said. “One of the things that we asked him to do was to fall in love with baseball all over again. To go down, to compete — he’s going to work hard, we know that — but to kind of remember why he loved playing this game.”

When Bello was asked about those comments on Sunday, the right-handed pitcher said he’s not losing his love for the game.
“I think that’s why I take it such to heart when we do lose games or I do not pitch my best, because I love this game so much,” Bello said. “I have so much passion for it and it makes those tough times a lot harder.”
Bello plans to pitch a bullpen session soon with Triple-A Worcester before making a start on June 11 when the WooSox visit the Rochester Red Wings. As he left his pregame media scrum on Sunday, the recently demoted pitcher signed autographs for fans at Polar Park.

It’s been a tough few days for the Red Sox pitcher — with the road back to Boston beginning Sunday in Worcester.
“I’m just ready to put in the work down here so that whenever it’s my time, whatever role they give me at the big-league level, I’m able to take full advantage of it,” Bello said.
