Hunter Lawrence wins Washougal 450 National after Jett Lawrence crashes, penalized

Hunter Lawrence finished second in the first moto and won Moto 2 to score the overall win in the Washougal (Wash.) National.

Hunter earned the holeshot, but was unable to shake Jett in the opening laps. Jett paced Hunter for the first half of the race and then found more speed. Moments after it was announced that Jett would be penalized one position for accelerating off track, Jett took the lead on Lap 8. He crashed on the same lap and handed the lead back to Hunter.

Jett Lawrence resumed his dominant form one week after losing the red plate by 10 points.

Both of Jett’s incidents allowed Haiden Deegan to close the gap and challenge the defending champion. With the penalty, Deegan was scored second in Moto 2.

Jorge Prado had a bad start and was well outside the top five during the first three laps. He steadily moved through the ranks and slipped into fourth in the second half of the race.

Dylan Ferrandis rounded out the top five.

RJ Hampshire battled with Justin Barcia for a top five position on Lap 4 before crashing. He recovered and caught Barcia late in the race, this time for the sixth position after Ferrandis had completed the pass on his teammate.

Eli Tomac had another bad start. He was outside the top 20 on Lap 1 and was only able to climb to 14th.
