Hull make Tromso midfielder Hjerto-Dahl their sixth summer signing

Jens Hjerto-Dahl believes he is taking on the “biggest challenge” of his young career after completing his move to Premier League new boys Hull City on Friday. 

Hjerto-Dahl has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Sergej Jakirovic’s side, with the fee believed to be in the region of £10m. 

The 20-year-old arrives at the MKM Stadium having spent three years in the first-team with Eliteserien side Tromso, where he made 89 league appearances. 

He also registered 19 goal involvements (12 goals, seven assists) in that time, and has now became the Tigers’ sixth summer signing ahead of their return to the Premier League. 

“I’m very happy. It’s a massive club, and I’m really looking forward to playing here. I heard of the club’s interest a little over a week ago,” Hjerto-Dahl told Hull’s club website. 

“From there, it happened really fast. I spoke to the chairman, and he told me good things about the club. I also spoke to Sergej and I really like his vision for me and for the team.

“I’m a tall midfielder. I like to get forward, run with the ball, pass the ball forward. I can arrive late in the box. I am strong in duels, both in the air and across the ground.

“The last three and a half years with the senior team were the greatest years of my life in Tromso. I will miss them, but I’m ready for Hull and what’s waiting here.

“I needed a challenge and this is the biggest challenge you can get. I think this is the right step and that Hull can help me improve.

“I’ve heard a lot of great things about the atmosphere, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Hjerto-Dahl joins Jack Butland, Oscar Zambrano, Matt Targett, Hidemasa Morita and Konstantinos Tzolakis in making the move to Hull ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. 

Hull chairman Acun Ilicali has openly discussed his team’s transfer plans throughout the summer window, often posting on social media how close deals are to being done. 

On Wednesday, ahead of the confirmation of Tzolakis and Hjerto-Dahl’s arrivals, Ilicali said a further four deals were close to being completed, posting the flags of Hull’s impending arrivals along with a tick. 

It has been reported that the players potentially arriving are Senegal’s Nobel Mendy, Lucas Herrington from Australia, Sweden’s Zinedin Smajlovic and Aston Villa and Jamaica international Leon Bailey. 

Hull begin their first Premier League campaign since 2016-17 on August 22 at home to Manchester United.
