The Czech Republic hopes to bag its first-ever win over Croatia as the UEFA Nations League Group A3 opponents square off in Prague on Saturday. The Blazers boast three wins and three draws in six meetings with the Czechs to date, though the latter has managed to remain unbeaten when hosting this fixture.
Both of these teams qualified for World Cup 2026 despite meeting in the same UEFA qualifying group. The Czech Republic advanced via the playoffs following a runner-up finish behind Croatia, who have since replaced Zlatko Dalic with Slaven Bilic, who has been tasked with the daunting task of beating the likes of Spain and England in their group.
Former Spain youth boss Santi Denia will make his debut in the hosts’ dugout and become the first non-Czech to coach the team. Patrik Schick’s retirement from the national team means Adam Hlozek is primed to lead the line for the Czechs, with Wolves defender Ladislav Krejci set to captain the hosts.
Luka Modric is in place to earn his 203rd cap after being retained as captain by new manager Bilic, who begins his second term in charge of the national team. It’s been 14 years since the national icon left the post for the first time, reuniting with Modric 20 years after handing the 41-year-old his international breakthrough.
