- Aaron Sorkin’s new film “The Social Reckoning” is about the 2021 Facebook whistleblower scandal.
- Jeremy Strong stars as Mark Zuckerberg opposite Mikey Madison as the whistleblower Frances Haugen.
- Jeremy Allen White plays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz.
In 2019, McNamee published a scathing book about Zuckerberg, titled “Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe,” which is listed in the movie’s credits — along with Haugen’s memoir and Horwitz’s book, “Broken Code” — as additional research materials. Sorkin said he spoke to all three “a lot” while writing the script.
Sorkin described McNamee as “a kind of consigliere to Mark until they had a big falling out over the direction of the company.”
“Originally, it was made clear to me that I couldn’t call Bill Burr’s character Roger McNamee, not because there was going to be a problem with Roger, who was on board, but because there might be a problem with Facebook and the situation that I have Mark and Bill Burr’s character in the movie,” Sorkin told Vanity Fair. “So that character had to become inspired by Roger McNamee, which is what it is now.”
