The Los Angeles Rams gave up a lot to bring Myles Garrett to town.
Clearly, the organization thinks that adding Garrett to the defensive line will be worth the high sticker price. But, what if it doesn’t work out that way?
Will the Rams regret trading for Myles Garrett?
Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon covered that possibility in a recent article examining how the biggest moves of the offseason could potentially backfire. He pointed to Garrett’s advancing age combined with the potential of Jared Verse, who the Rams traded to Cleveland, as reasons why the trade might not work out the way Rams fans hope.
“Garrett is on the wrong side of 30 now, and it’s entirely possible the Browns sold at the highest point with a potential peak in 2025. Verse was the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 and made the Pro Bowl as a sophomore. The gap between the two could close considerably in 2026, and Verse likely won’t cost Cleveland much until 2028,” Gagnon wrote.
“Garrett also won’t come cheap over time, even with the Browns absorbing a lot of the costs early on. Throw in all that lost draft capital and this basically backfires if the Rams don’t win the Super Bowl in the next two or three years.”
The Rams trading Verse and multiple picks for Garrett is the equivalent of them throwing all of their chips on the table in a poker game. They’re basically going all in on the present while star quarterback Matthew Stafford, the reigning NFL MVP, is still near the peak of his powers.
If the gamble results in a Super Bowl victory, it will have been worth it. If not, there will likely be some regrets.
