How did former Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte play in Texans debut?

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte made his official debut with the Houston Texans on Sunday.

The Texans fell in defeat 36-31 to the Buffalo Bills in the season opener. Boutte recorded one reception on two targets for 21 yards in the Week 1 loss.

The Patriots traded Boutte to the Texans in hopes of getting something in return for a player they were unlikely to keep after the season. Considering the move came down on August 24, there hasn’t been a lot of time for Boutte to get acclimated to the Texans’ offensive system or build up chemistry with quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Boutte earned a 58.6 Pro Football Focus grade for his efforts in the opener.

The Patriots received a 2028 seventh-round draft pick and safety Jaylen Reed in return for sending Boutte to Houston. Some have argued that the trade wasn’t worth it, especially after the Patriots lost A.J. Brown to an ankle injury in the opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

New England will move forward with Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism III as their main receiving corps, while Boutte fights to carve out a bigger role with the Texans.
