The Houston Texans are optimistic wide receiver Nico Collins and guard Ed Ingram will be available for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday.
“We’re hopeful to get both guys back this week,” Ryans said.
The two starters didn’t play the last two weeks due to injuries. Collins is dealing with a hamstring injury while Ingram has a groin ailment.
Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney remains week-to-week with a knee injury, Ryans added. He also hasn’t played the last two weeks.
Houston, which has started 0-3 for the second straight season, has missed Collins and Ingram in losses to the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts. The offensive line has struggled greatly in the run game without Ingram while the passing game misses the attention and ability Collins brings to the field as a No. 1 receiver.
Xavier Hutchinson has been the top wide receiver target without Collins but he has only nine catches on 21 targets for 120 yards. Collins had seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
With Collins out, the Texans have elevated Lewis Bond from the practice squad as an extra wide receiver but the rookie hasn’t registered a catch yet.
Wyatt Teller has started at right guard for Houston with Ingram. Teller, a former Pro Bowler, signed with the Texans in the offseason. Houston has rushed for only 130 yards total in the two games without Ingram.
