House Of The Dragon: Dark Dealings Officially Available Now

House of the Dragon is on a roll at the moment, with the show receiving an immensely positive critical reception and mostly glowing reviews from fans. It has also gotten the spin-off treatment, with the likes of Dragonfire helping to supplement the show and give fans something to entertain themselves with as they await the fourth and final season releasing in 2028. While it isn’t quite the cultural touchstone that its predecessor proved to be, House of the Dragon has earned a respectably impressive reputation and, should its final season stick the landing, will likely be remembered fondly.

For now, however, fans just have those aforementioned House of the Dragon spin-off projects to look forward to, as Season 3 has officially concluded with a rather climactic finale. Among those spin-offs is Dark Dealings, a brand-new game that fans can actually jump into right now. Looking to give House of the Dragon the same treatment as Game of Thrones, Dark Dealings will have you and your friends gathered around the tabletop, talking your way out of perilous situations in the hopes of backstabbing the other players all the way to the top.

House of the Dragon: Dark Dealings Brings The Show To Your Table

While there are numerous upcoming House of the Dragon releases to get excited about, right now players can delve straight into the aforementioned Dark Dealings. It is a card game of deceit in which up to six players aim to get the highest score by placing numbered cards into a vault. Each card is either a Political, Military, or Economic one, and the highest number of each of these suits in the vault at the end of the round wins.

Players must announce which card they placed into the vault, although they don’t need to be truthful. The other players can only see the suit and value of said card in the vault, with the rest of its information obscured, an important detail, as certain cards lie about which suit they are or have unique abilities that can trick their opponents. You can see a detailed breakdown of how to play the game in the video below:

Dark Dealings isn’t a terribly complex game, with players largely limited in their choices, but it is a lot of fun, especially thanks to the kinds of player interactions it encourages. You’ll need to lie your way through the game in order to win, something that feels very on-brand for House of the Dragon, and you can use every form of deceit at your disposal to outsmart your opponents and rise to the very top.

We’ve seen this type of trick-talking game for other big-name IP before, but House of the Dragon: Dark Dealings’ novel twists on the format make it a stand-out entry for fans. While it isn’t quite the massive Game of Thrones board game that offers a more expansive adaptation of the source material, it is a fun and relatively casual experience that players can pick up and play quite easily without needing to worry about a ridiculous number of components or a lengthy rulebook.

If House of the Dragon: Dark Dealings sounds like an appealing prospect, then you’re in luck. The game has been available since 2024, although it hasn’t garnered quite the positive buzz Funko Games likely hoped it would achieve. Fortunately, as a consequence of having been out so long, Dark Dealings retails for around $9.99 on secondhand websites like eBay, or just $24.99 brand-new. Frankly, the lower-end for a game like this is probably the better value, although getting a fresh copy obviously comes with its advantages that may be worth the higher price for some.

House of the Dragon: Dark Dealings has attracted some relatively low review scores on sites like BoardGameGeek, which understandably may scare some away from giving it a shot. However, while the scores do tend to skew toward the negative, these are largely aggregated from user scores, of which there simply aren’t that many. Traditional reviews for this game are few and far between, owing to its relatively underrated status. Fortunately, its significantly reduced price point makes it an accessible House of the Dragon experience that can be easily returned on sites like Amazon should it fail to tickle your fancy.
