Hannah covers horror, sci-fi, and games at Collider, where she writes news and features, reviews new releases, and interviews the people who make them. She’s helping build out Collider‘s gaming coverage, with Pokémon as one of her specialties. If she isn’t writing about a monster, she’s probably watching one on a tape from her VHS collection.
Super Earth has an entire galaxy to fight over, and getting everyone through a single mission alive is already asking a lot. One teammate is calling down an airstrike dangerously close to the extraction point. Another has discovered, much too late, that there is absolutely such a thing as friendly fire.
That chaos helped turn Helldivers 2 into a massive hit when it launched in February 2024. Sony reported that the cooperative shooter sold 12 million copies in its first 12 weeks across PlayStation 5 and PC, surpassing the launch record set by God of War Ragnarök. With that kind of debut, questions about a third game were inevitable.
However, Arrowhead Game Studios chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt says Helldivers 3 would face a problem of its own making. Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Pilestedt explained: “And the biggest competitor to a Helldivers 3 would be Helldivers 2.” A third game isn’t currently a priority for Arrowhead, with 95% of the studio still focused on the existing game and a small team prototyping its next project.
Britain makes more detective television than any country has any
business making, and somehow almost all of it is good. Here is the one you belong in, what it says
about you, and the case for it being the best of the four.
You want the tea, the gossip and the vicar behaving oddly.
Midsomer is a county where the scenery is beautiful, the fete is on Saturday and the murder
rate is roughly that of a small war, and absolutely nobody involved thinks this is strange.
- You are sociable, curious and the first to notice that somebody has changed their
routine. - It has been running since 1997 and sells to well over two hundred territories worldwide.
- John Nettles handed over to Neil Dudgeon in 2011 and the show did not miss a step.
- Your flaw is that the line between caring about people and enjoying the gossip is
thinner than you admit.
You feel other people’s grief as if it were handed to you
personally. Broadchurch is less a whodunnit than a study of what a small town does to itself
when it finds out that the answer was always going to be somebody everybody already knew.
- You are the one people tell the truth to, and you carry all of it afterwards.
- Olivia Colman won the BAFTA for Best Actress for the first series and David Tennant has
never been better. - Chris Chibnall wrote it before taking over Doctor Who, and took Jodie Whittaker with
him. - Your risk is absorbing so much of other people’s pain that nobody notices yours.
You go through things rather than around them. John Luther is the
best detective in London and a liability to everybody who works with him, and the show is
completely honest that those two facts are the same fact.
- You are the one people call when the normal approach has already failed.
- Idris Elba won a Golden Globe for it in 2012 and it made him a film star more or less
overnight. - Luther: The Fallen Sun arrived on Netflix in 2023 and took the character properly
cinematic. - Your weakness is that doing the right thing your way still leaves a mess for somebody
else.
You say the thing and you do not dress it up. Vera Stanhope turns
up in a hat and a mac, is rude to almost everybody, and is the only person in the room
prepared to ask the question that the family has been waiting years for somebody to ask.
- You have no patience for performance, and the people who like you really like you.
- Brenda Blethyn played her for fourteen series before stepping away, and ITV ended the
show rather than recast. - Ann Cleeves wrote the novels, and also wrote the books behind Shetland, which is the
same trick in a colder place. - Your flaw is that blunt and kind can be the same thing, but only if people already know
you.
‘Helldivers 2’ Is Still Arrowhead’s Priority

A successful multiplayer game also comes with an audience that has already invested time in it. Players have their regular squads, their favorite equipment, and plenty of reasons to keep returning. Putting another installment on the shelf creates an obvious question: what happens to the game those people are already playing? For Arrowhead, the work currently going into Helldivers 2 offers a more immediate answer than an announcement for its successor. The studio’s next prototype has not been identified as Helldivers 3, and its existence does not change where the overwhelming majority of the team is working. Anyone waiting for a threequel should keep that distinction in mind.
The game has also expanded its reach since its original release, as Helldivers 2 released on Xbox Series X|S on August 26, 2025, giving another console audience access to the fight for Super Earth. Cross-play allows Xbox players to join their friends on PlayStation 5 and PC, bringing those communities into the same war. That shared battlefield is a major part of the appeal. A disastrous extraction becomes a story to tell your friends, and an accidental team kill can be remembered longer than a successful mission because there is plenty of room for humor in failure when it comes to these games. Those experiences give players a reason to organize another session and try again, even after the initial excitement of a new release has passed.
For now, there is no Helldivers 3 release date to mark on the calendar.
