Heavy rain, unplayable conditions force PONY League World Series into single-elimination final

The PONY League World Series is being forced to change its schedule because of heavy rain.

In an update on Facebook, officials say that due to ongoing rain and unplayable field conditions, the remaining games can’t be completed under the tournament’s original format.

With six teams remaining and limited playable time available since the tournament must conclude on Wednesday, the PONY World Series will move to a single-elimination conclusion.

The only two undefeated teams, Washington and Chinese Taipei, will meet Wednesday night for the championship game.

“We understand the disappointment this decision brings to the four other remaining teams,” the post read in part. “Every possible option was considered, but the combination of field conditions and the tournament’s firm travel deadline leaves no viable alternative.”

This change comes after all Tuesday games were canceled because of the weather and field conditions.
