Gymnast Jordan Chiles tapped Houston legends Paul Wall and Johnny Dang to help her announce she is going to try and compete at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles

Chiles, who was born in Oregon but moved to the Houston area as a teenager to train at World Champions Centre, released a video on social media about her decision.

Narrated by Michael Jordan and co-starring singer Normani and model Winnie Harlow, the “LA2028…WHY NOT?” video ends with Chiles showing off “LA 28” grillz.

“Thank you also to (Johnny Dang) and (Paul Wall) for creating these for me!!!” Chiles posted, per ESPN.

If Chiles makes the team in 2028, it would be her third time competing at the Summer Olympics. Chiles officially won the 2020 team silver medal and the 2024 team gold medal for Team USA, even rocking a special grill on the 2024 podium.

She also controversially finished in fourth place in floor competition in 2024 after originally winning the bronze medal. Romania appealed the result on the basis that a challenge put in by Chiles and her coach for a scoring change came in too late.

Officials agreed, saying that the challenge inquiry came in four seconds after the one-minute deadline to file concluded and stripping the medal from Chiles

But Chiles has continued to fight for the medal. She filed an appeal herself. In January, the Swiss supreme court sent the case back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for the body to review new evidence.

“We are delighted that the Swiss Federal Supreme Court has righted a wrong and given Jordan the chance she deserves to reclaim her bronze medal,” Maurice M. Suh, part of the Chiles’s legal team, said in a statement in January, via the Associated Press. “As the Court recognized, there is ‘conclusive’ video evidence that Jordan was the rightful winner of the bronze medal.”

Her decision to try for the Olympics comes a day after UCLA announced Chiles accepted a job as a student coach for the Bruins gymnastics program.

At the college level, Chiles earned 23 All-American honors and won four NCAA titles for UCLA. She won the NCAA floor title, WCGA West Region Gymnast of the Year, Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, the AAI Award and four Big Ten titles this past season as a senior.

“Jordan has made an incredible impact on our program over the years,” UCLA head coach Janelle McDonald said in a statement. “I’m excited to watch her continue that influence in a new capacity as she steps into this next chapter with student coaching.”
