Despite finishing in the top-10 of the Heisman voting for the 2025 college football season, Georgia Bulldogs senior quarterback Gunner Stockton is not among Joel Klatt’s top-10 returning quarterbacks for the 2026 season.
Klatt did not offer an explanation why he left Stockton off his list, but he did explain the criteria he was looking at.
“Here’s how I would draft them,” Klatt said. “If I had to take one quarterback, you know, multiple quarterbacks, here’s how I would list them out. If I had to take one for this season, now granted, this is going to be a little bit determined about their experience level and what they have coming back on their own teams. So how I would draft them and my projection for the type of season that they would have.”
Four other SEC quarterbacks are on the list even though Stockton has won back-to-back SEC championships and has two College Football Playoff starts. Stockton is 2-1 in his career against other quarterbacks in Joel Klatt’s top-10 (1-0 vs. Arch Manning and 1-1 vs. Trinidad Chambliss). Stockton is coming off his first year as the starter where he posted 34 total touchdowns and only five interceptions.
Stockton will have plenty of opportunities to prove Klatt wrong. Georgia is scheduled to play against two of Klatt’s top-10 quarterbacks (Oklahoma‘s John Mateer and Ole Miss‘ Trinidad Chambliss).
- Dante Moore, Oregon
- Arch Manning, Texas
Julian Sayin, Ohio State
Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
CJ Carr, Notre Dame
